Sigma Phi in the age of AI: Read the 2026 Convention keynote

Dear Brothers,

What does the age of AI mean for Sigma Phi? That was the focus of David Aronoff’s thoughtful keynote at our 2026 convention in Burlington, where more than 120 brothers gathered. David, V’83, is Chairman and Managing Partner of MJC, an early-stage climate friendly technology venture capital firm. His address offers a timely perspective as we consider AI’s benefits and challenges—and what they mean for our brotherhood.

Fraternities in the news

Recent reports on the morally offensive and possibly criminal activities at the Chi Phi chapter at Cornell, charges of hazing at Alpha Epsilon Pi at Wisconsin and drug dealing at Penn State have brought a national spotlight on fraternities. The Standing and Advisory Committee is appalled at the behaviors reported. Our risk management policy prohibits such conduct, and we educate our undergraduates on these expectations every year.  Brotherhood carries an obligation to act with integrity, serve others, and hold one another accountable.

Sadly, what gets lost in the negative reports is the good work of the vast majority of fraternity men. For example:

  • Higher GPAs and retention and graduation rates than non-members

  • Nearly 50% hold leadership roles on campus

  • Significantly more time spent volunteering and mentoring than non-members

Holding bad actors accountable and recognizing the good that fraternities do are not in conflict.
