The U.S. Department of Education is in the process of working with the Internal Revenue Service to correct a data transfer error associated with the new FAFSA form. For about 5% of the FAFSA applicants, the error could negatively impact the amount of aid they are eligible for. In recognition of the delay the error is causing in receiving corrected FAFSA reports, the Viele Selection Committee has decided to push back the deadline for Viele applications until midnight PDT on May 15th. If applicants are not planning to submit a FAFSA Student Aid Report to document their financial need (either because they are using the CSS Profile system or because they are applying based on merit-only), this FAFSA reporting error does not impact their application other than to provide an extra month to complete and submit it.
